Extinguisher Training
Adequate training must be provided – Requirement of UK Legislation – Required on induction – Required at regular refresher intervals
UK Fire safety legislation requires an employer to provide adequate fire-safety training for its employees. When it comes to extinguishers the first decision is who will be allowed to use the extinguishers. Once that decision has been taken then those people must be provided with training. Training should take place on induction and at regular refresher intervals.
The best form of training is undoubtedly hands-on practical training and where possible this method is the ideal. However in terms of cast and practicality this can proved difficult to implement for many businesses.
There are alternatives such as online and DVD training. These methods are certainly less expensive and usually vary simple to implement. They are particularly good when you have small numbers to train. It can be difficult to locate a practical trainer that is willing to train small groups or individuals (such as a new starter).
With these methods though it is essential to ensure the training encompasses a test to prove understanding and competence. Watching video learning alone would not constitute adequate training in a court of law.
