CO2 Extinguishers
Use on flammable liquids – Use on electrical fires – Not to be used on solid fires – Works by removing oxygen
CO2 extinguishers are very widely used in UK businesses and are probably the most effective solution for tackling a fire where electricity is present.
Why you should have CO2 in your business and what to be careful of
Take a minute to watch this short video explaining the benefits and some of the potential pitfalls of using CO2 extinguishers.
CO2 – Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers
CO2 can fight Type B (flammable liquids) and electrical fires. It is an extremely clean extinguisher leaving virtually no residue after use. They are very effective at fighting office-equipment fires as the gas can penetrate vents and casings to reach internal fires. They are an asphyxiant so shouldn’t be used in confined spaces.
As this type of extinguisher works by removing oxygen there is tendency for untrained users to presume they are ideal to use on solid fires too. Using CO2 on solid fires can disperse the fues and create several fires at once.
Buying CO2 extinguishers
We supply two sizes: 2kg and 5kg. The smaller size is ideal for most office / commercial applications however where three-phase electrical is present then a larger volume is normally required. All the extinguishers we supply are commissioned onsite and certificated for twelve months. They are mounted on a bracket at the regulation height and provided with the mandatory ID / Instruction sign. On-going annual maintenance contracts are available to ensure you continue to meet UK fire safety legislation.
