AFFF Foam Extinguishers
Foam extinguishers can tackle Type A and Type B fires. Type A being solid fires and Type B being flammable liquids. Sometimes foam is specified as an alternative to water and in particular where flammable liquids are present. However if a flammable-liquid spill is running on an uneven surface then foam is ineffective. CO2 and powder are also capable of fighting flammable liquids therefore if CO2 has already been specified to handle electrical fires there may not be a need to specify foam.
There are often several possible combinations of extinguishers that may be specified to achieve the same end. Ultimately a trained professional should guide you on your particular requirements.
